Fees and financial aid can be critical to students' choices. This page gives an overview on

FINANCING YOUR STUDIES

Candidates should make a budget before applying to the programme. CERAH can only offer a very limited number of scholarships to students selected for the Master and Diploma in Humanitarian Action, as well as for the distance learning Certtificate Designing strategies and projects for humanitarian action. These scholarships are only available under certain conditions. Candidates are thus strongly encouraged to search for financial support on their own and as early as possible.

LIVING EXPENSES

Living expenses for a student in Geneva are estimated at about CHF 2,000 per month. This sum includes expenses such as for accommodation, health insurance, local transport and meals. The sum does not include travel to and from Geneva or the costs of obtaining a visa.

REGISTRATION FEES 

The registration fees include the university fees (concerns only MAS students) and teaching materials. Payments should be made in Swiss francs. If fees are not paid before the course, access to the programme will not be allowed.

Candidates accepted for either the MAS, DAS or CAS programme are required to transfer a deposit upon acceptance of admission. The receipt of the deposit serves as confirmation. The deposit is not reimbursed in case of cancellation of application or abandonment of studies.

Please note that CERAH offers special prices for CAS or TSC participants from partnership organizations (MSF, ICRC, PHAP, etc.).

Master of advanced studies (MAS) in humanitarian action

In one or two academic years (September to August): CHF 15,000
In three academic years CHF 17,000
Deposit (upon acceptance of admission): CHF 1,000
The payment of the registration fees can be made in several instalments  

Diploma of advanced studies (DAS) in humanitarian action

From September till December: CHF 8,000
Deposit (upon acceptance of admission): CHF 1,000
The payment of the registration fee can be made in several instalments.  


At any time during the DAS course, the student can apply for the MAS in humanitarian action with an extra administrative cost.

During the same academic year (a.y.) (September to August) or during the same a.y. + one a.y. (total study period = 2 academic years):
MAS in humanitarian action: CHF 15,500 (including the DAS registration fees)

During the same academic year (a.y.) + two a.y. (total study period = 3 academic years):
MAS in humanitarian action: CHF 17,000 (including the DAS registration fees)

During the same academic year (a.y.) + three a.y., or + four a.y., or + five a.y.:
MAS in humanitarian action: CHF 18,000 (including the DAS registration fees)

Please note that the credits earned (ECTS) are valid for a maximum of 5 academic years.

Certificate of advanced studies (CAS) in humanitarian action:

Options 1-4:    
1. Designing strategies and projects for humanitarian action
2. Communication, advocacy and negotiation in humanitarian settings
3. Health of populations affected by humanitarian emergencies
4. Legal environment of humanitarian action

Registration fees: CHF 5,000
Deposit (upon acceptance of admission): CHF 500
The payment of the registration fees is made in two instalments.  

 

Option 6:      
6. CAS-HDL Designing strategies and projects for humanitarian action (distance learning course)

Registration fees + Residential session in Kapala: CHF 5,000 + CHF 1,000 = Total CHF 6,000
Deposit (upon acceptance of admission): CHF 500
The payment of the registration fees is made in two instalments.  

 
At any time of the course, the student can apply for the MAS in humanitarian action with an extra administrative cost.

During the same academic year (a.y.) + one a.y. (September to August) (total study period = 2 academic years):
MAS in humanitarian action: CHF 15,500 (including the CAS registration fees)

During the same academic year (a.y.) + two a.y. (total study period = 3 academic years):

Please note that the cost of the residential session in Kampala is not taken into consideration in the MAS registration fees.

Thematic short courses (TSC)

Registration fees: CHF 1,500
Additional costs for the TSC Sexual violence in conflict settings and emergencies taking place in Uganda CHF 400


If the participant would like to apply for the MAS, the DAS or a CAS in humanitarian action, the registration fee or/and the ECTS of the TSC cannot be taken into consideration.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Service Solidarité InternationaleFondation Hans Wilsdorf

The Service de la solidarité internationale of the Canton of Geneva and the Wilsdorf Foundation provide students of the MAS, the DAS and the CAS-HDL Designing strategies and projects in humanitarian action scholarships to partially cover the registration fees and/or living expenses in Geneva. These scholarships are attributed and administered by CERAH. Only students who come from and work in one of the countries designed in the DAC list of ODA Recipients are eligible for scholarships (excluded 4th colomn: upper middle income countries and territories). The deposit is not part of the scholarship.

Candidates can apply for a scholarship. Candidates will be able to apply for the scholarship once filling the online application form.

Please note that we expect all students to contribute towards the cost of their education. The selection committee takes into account individuals’ financial contribution.

We strongly advise you to look for your own financial support.

Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in humanitarian action:

If you match the requirements to apply for a scholarship, you can ask for a certain amount to partially cover registration fees and/or living expenses. There is no guarantee that the amount requested will be attributed. We value contributions by students to their study costs.

Please note that the scholarship to cover part of living expenses does not include transport costs to Geneva and visa costs.

For scholarship beneficiaries it is compulsory to do the MAS in one academic year without any interruption.

Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) in humanitarian action:

If you match the requirements to apply for a scholarship, you can ask for a certain amount to cover registration fees. There is no guarantee that the amount requested will be attributed. We value contributions by students to their study costs.

CERAH cannot provide scholarships to cover living expenses in Geneva for DAS students.

If you are a scholarship recipient, no interruption of the programme is accepted.

Thematic Short Courses (TSC):

CERAH does not provide scholarship for the Thematic Short Courses.

EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT

Candidates who have paid Geneva taxes for at least one year can apply for a "chèque annuel de formation" (training subsidy) which amounts to a maximum of CHF 2,250.  A request should be made to the OFPC before the start of the course.
