The MAS in Humanitarian Action: Programme Details
The MAS is composed of course work and a research assignment, and is organised in three sections:
- A core curriculum of 3 months of intensive course work on the theory and fundamental questions of humanitarianism, including courses on research methodology, carried out during the Swiss autumn semester (September-December).
- Two elective courses on a specialist subject of the student's choice.
These two courses are selected from 6 optional courses, each lasting six weeks. These courses take place during the Swiss spring semester (February-June) and include:
- Strategic planning and management of humanitarian programmes
- Communication and advocacy for humanitarian projects
- Disaster management
- Health in humanitarian emergencies
- Legal environment of humanitarian action
- Human resources management in humanitarian settings
- A master dissertation, which is worked on throughout the programme and presented at the end.
