CERAH provides an open and welcoming learning environment and fosters an interactive community of students, researchers and professionals located in international Geneva and beyond.
Multidisciplinary & Interactive Postgraduate Education
The MAS offers unique postgraduate-level education focused on building in-depth understanding of the central conceptual and operational aspects of humanitarian action. Teaching is multidisciplinary and interactive, with a special emphasis on the dynamics between emergency and development. Case studies and analyses of armed conflicts, disasters triggered by natural hazards and social exclusion are carried out throughout the course in seminars and lectures limited to a maximum of 30 students.
Professional Community & Exchange of Experience
The MAS is open to professionals at all career levels who work in the humanitarian sector or related to it. Participants in the MAS form part of CERAH's vibrant intercultural community, which fosters intellectual exchange between fellow students, researchers in humanitarian action, as well as experts in Geneva and in the field. The exchange of experience constitutes a central pillar of the programme and facilitates the multidisciplinary analysis of the varied challenges in contemporary humanitarian operations.
Drawing on Geneva’s Humanitarian Network
Geneva is a global focal point for the teaching and practice of humanitarian action. Home to important international organisations and numerous NGOs in the field of humanitarian action, Geneva provides an unparalleled opportunity for the trainings participants to build and extend a professional network in the city's international and humanitarian community.
Accredited Degree Programme
CERAH's Master programme in humanitarian action is accredited by the Swiss Agency for Accreditation and Quality Assurance. The interdisciplinary nature of the programme and the active engagement of all professors, practitioners and students in the programme’s development and quality control have been particularly appreciated.
The teaching language at CERAH is essentially English. However, French-language students may take written tests and write their research report in French.
CERAH, my stepping stone
Batoul Kazwini graduated from CERAH in 2016. Watch her impressive story that starts in Syria. Batoul obtained a 1-year scholarship for CERAH's Master of Advanced Studies in Humanitarian Action and took full profit from International Geneva during her stay: she passed the application process and integrated the ICRC as a detention delegate right after her graduation. Batoul speaks to us from her first mission in Rwanda and ICRC Director-General Yves Daccord gives the closing statement.
