Prof. Georges Gorin

Georges Gorin is professor of geology at the Faculty of Sciences, Department of Earth Sciences, at the University of Geneva.

He studied earth sciences at the University of Geneva where he obtained a PhD in 1974. Between 1975 and 1986 he worked as exploration geologist for Shell International Petroleum Co. in various countries including the Sultanate of Oman, United Kingdom and Norway.

Since 1987, Georges Gorin has been professor in geology at the University of Geneva, first as associate professor and since 2000 as full professor.

From 2000 until 2009 he was Head of the Department of Earth Sciences. He is specialized in the study of sedimentary rocks and in the prospection for natural resources (fossil fuels, water, geothermal energy). He has developed a particular interest in geopolitics and the conflicts associated with natural resources.

Since 2003 Georges Gorin is a member of CERAH’s Board of Directors and has been a regular lecturer on issues relating to conflicts surrounding natural resources.
