Edith Kolo Favoreu

Edith Kolo Favoreu leads the MAS in Humanitarian Action in which she has taught since 2010.

She also coordinates training and research projects in Haiti.

Edith Kolo Favoreu holds degrees in Public Law (1999), International Law (2000) and Political Science (2000), a Professional Master in Humanitarian Action (2001) and a Research Master in Protection and Humanitarian Security (2005).  She is currently finishing a doctoral thesis in comparative public law focussing on ethnocultural diversity in the context of a Nation, in France and the United States.

Since 2005, she has given courses and seminars at the Institute of International Humanitarian Studies at the University of Aix en Provence (part of the NOHA network).  After working for Bioforce, she took the post of Head of Training at Eirene Switzerland which, with other development NGOs, provides training to Swiss aid workers.  

She has worked in development for over twelve years, projects in the field (Bolivia, Benin) and at headquarters of local and European NGOs (Central America, Chad, Haiti) as well as for UNESCO.  She has established several local capacity-building initiatives particularly through the creation of local NGOs. She has facilitated participative workshops and coordinated collaborative projects (the documentary film: Kenbe La Ayiti).

Fields of interest :

  • Humanitarian dilemmas (definition of humanitarianism, crisis versus development, partnership and participation in interventions, Do No Harm, relationship between local and international actors)
  • Participatory development (strengthening of local capacities, empowerment, gender, participation, decentralisation, democratisation)
  • Conflicts and their prevention (gender and conflict, identity in conflicts, international and transitional justice, national reconciliation processes, restoration of a nation, management of ethnocultural diversity)
  • Human rights and international humanitarian law (law and terrorism)
