Dr Fidel Font

Fidel Font lectures on Public Health and Humanitarian issues at the University of Geneva within CERAH’s Master of Humanitarian Action course, having taken up the post in September 2009.

He obtained a medical degree at Barcelona University (1981) and an MSc in Community Health in Developing Countries at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (1992), and completed a PhD in Public Health at the University of Barcelona (2002).

Between 1987 and 1994 Fidel Font spent several years working overseas with Médecins Sans Frontières.

He went on to gain comprehensive International Red Cross experience as a Senior Health officer at IFRC Headquarters from 1998 to 2007, with particular responsibility for maternal and child health, developed policy, guidelines and quality control and the delivery of key messages related to maternal, child and reproductive health programmes.

During this time he also served as a medical delegate to the ICRC in Haiti.

Fidel Font also spent three years in the field as a research fellow for the Fundacio Clinic (University of Barcelona)/ Swiss Tropical Institute (Basel) from 1994 to 1997, providing technical support for the development, implementation and analysis of different projects related to major public health problems (Malaria and Anaemia) at  the Ifakara Research Centre in Tanzania.
